Where do I live?

county tax breakout for etj

Are you ever puzzled when calling Argyle's Town Hall about finances, permits, or utilities, only to be hit with the first question:

"What's your address?"

Well, here's the scoop: while we all share the Argyle name, not all of us actually reside within the town's official limits. That means we might have different zoning authorities, tax entities and voting privileges based on where we live.

So, how do you determine if you're in the heart of Argyle or outside of town limits in the Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ)?

Here's a quick guide:

  • Visit the Denton County Appraisal District website and punch in your address.
  • Look for the taxing section. (see example pictures above)
  • Do you spot "Argyle Town of" at the top of your tax section? If yes,  you're in the Argyle town limits and should visit Argyle Town website or call Town Hall with your query.
  • If you see "Denton Central Appraisal District" on the top tax line, then you're in Argyle's ETJ.  Therefore, you should visit Denton County website or call them with your query.

Now, why does this matter? Well, whether it's zoning, permits, tax queries, or road maintenance, calling the right location is crucial to get the correct answers you need.

So, before dialing Town Hall or Denton County, hop over to DentonCAD.org and verify your address. It's a simple step that can save you heaps of frustration.

PS - most questions are answered on the Denton County Civic Access Website.  Try there first if you determine you are in the ETJ and need assistance.

Denton County Commissioner Updates on TxDoT Projects

Argyle Mayor Rick Bradford recently attended a local mayor's meeting with County Commissioner Dianne Edmondson.  TxDot was the hot topic.  Area Mayors heard the latest and greatest about TxDoT's ever-increasing influence on our residents' travel schedules!   In summary from the Commissioner's email:

"Construction continues on 114 from east IH-35W to west of US 377. The project is a new 6-lane rural freeway and Roanoke bypass, eastbound frontage roads, and widening the westbound frontage roads.

The total construction cost is over $107 million and will be ongoing with an expected completion in June of 2026."

Let there be light!

With sports going late into the evening at Unity Park, it was time to get all of those lights updated! Power has been fixed at all of the poles with new industrial lightbulbs.   Thanks, Larry B. in Public Works!

In other Public Works news....

Public Works is a flexible department covering areas of Argyle you'd never imagine.

Inspections - 45 (forty-five!) inspections were completed over the month of April. The inspections involved driveways, culverts, sewer tie-ins and sewer backfills.

Patriotic Argyle - The Public Works team is preparing to set up Argyle's Flag Display for Memorial Day.  It will include flags featured on main intersections and Unity Park.  Some of our flags have become tattered and cannot be displayed anymore.  Argyle will hold a Flag Retirement Ceremony soon in conjunction with local Veteran and Scout groups.  The ceremony is a dignified and respectful event specifically designed to retire an American flag that is no longer fit for display.  .  Stay tuned for invites to that patriotic event!

Beaver Removal - Native to our area, beavers are cute little critters that cause a whole lotta hurt!   Residents in Waterbrook saw the destruction beaver dams can cause recently when a retention pond was blocked by a beaver family's dam.  Our Public Works team wrangled the family of beavers and dismantled the dam they had built.  Yikes! The beaver family was relocated to a nearby lake.

picture of code compliance officer

Due to the sensitive nature of his job, we chose to blur his picture. Really.

Meet Your Town Staff

Introducing Argyle's Code Compliance Officer, Larry L.!

Larry plays a crucial role in maintaining the attractiveness, safety, and adherence to ordinances in our town.

Starting his day before the crack of dawn, Larry diligently clears Argyle's streets of illegal advertising signs and debris. He also ensures that wildlife and livestock are safely corralled away from roadways before the morning rush begins.

Working closely with Argyle's building inspection company, SafeBuilt, Larry oversees both residential and commercial construction projects, ensuring that all structures meet code compliance standards.

In essence, a code compliance officer like Larry is tasked with evaluating, educating, and enforcing local codes. This may involve providing guidance, issuing warnings, or, when necessary, issuing citations for code violations. Despite the occasional need for enforcement action, the primary goal of code enforcement officers is to foster an attractive, lawful, and safe community.        (as articulated by government employment expert Peter Roque)

Thank you for keeping Argyle beautiful, Larry!
