Town Council election May 6

Municipal elections are just around the corner with voters going to the polls on Saturday, May 6, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Early voting is 8 a.m. April 24-29, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. April 30 and 7 a.m. -7 p.m. May 1-2. Registered voters may vote early at any Denton County voting location.

Voting on Election Day is at your precinct location. Argyle voters may cast their ballots at Town Hall, 308 Denton St. E. Argyle voters are in precincts 4183, 4197, 4198 and 4208. Complete information is available at votedenton.gov.

SPAN service provides low-cost rides for seniors, disabled and veterans

County service provides transportation to senior, disabled and veterans

Argyle residents age 60 and over or those at any age with disabilities or veterans has access to the SPAN Denton County transportation service.

SPAN (Service Program for Aging Needs), which offers multiple services for seniors, disabled and veterans, has a public transportation service for those living outside the DCTA service area in Denton County. It is available 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday with reservations made one day in advance of travel.

Costs vary based on age and certain criteria. Passengers must complete an application to meet the eligibility criteria. Visit www.span-transit.org for the application and more details.

UP crews to remove ties along US 377

Argyle Public Works Director Robert White has notified the Town Council and administrator that the public's concern about railroad ties along US 377 will be addressed by Union Pacific Railroad.

White told the council that representatives from UP said crews would be working throughout the year to remove the stray ties from along the tracks.

Planning & Zoning Commission

The P&Z at its April meeting recommended approval of revisions to the town's Tree Preservation Regulations. The revisions would include protection for trees in rights-of-way and provide a specified timeline for preserved trees. The regulations would also count existing trees for required landscaping within the landscape buffer.

The commission also:

  • Recommended approval of the proposed planned development district for the Argyle Technology Center, which is located east of US 377 and south of Wallace Street.
  • Recommended approval for the Carwash Specific Use Permit that would allow for expansion at the site located in the North Avalon addition.
  • Recommended approval for a special exception for monument sign locations for Teresa's House, an assisted living/memory care facility located in the Argyle Crossing Development (Argyle ETJ).

Tree Preservation Board

The board supported a measure to send the proposed Tree Rebate Program to the Town Council for approval.
