Bike Tips
Protect Your Bike
1. Register your bicycle serial number with the local Police Department.
2. Lock your bicycle with a wheel or chain lock when it is unattended.
3. If you must leave it unlocked, leave it where someone can watch over it.
4. Put your bike in a locked storage area at night, or when it's not in use.
5. For quick identification of your bike, letter your name on the underside of the saddle, and paint a distinctive band on the frame.
6. Report bicycle thefts promptly to the police.
Ten Bicycle Rules Of The Road
Obey Traffic Laws
Know your local traffic laws and obey them. They usually apply to bikes too.
Stay To The Right
Keep to the right of the road. Do not weave in and out of traffic.
RIDE SINGLE FILE
Always ride in a single file with plenty of space between bikes.
WALK IT ACROSS
At busy intersections, get off your bike and walk it across. Never dart into traffic.
USE YOUR LIGHT AT NIGHT
When riding your bicycle at night, make sure that the light is always on.
USE A CARRIER
Don't try to carry packages or books in your arms when riding your bike. Use a carrier or basket.
ONE TO A BIKE
Carrying someone as a passenger can make your handling and control of the bike very difficult.
DON'T BE A SHOWOFF
Fancy bike riding could prove fatal. Don't try and see how many tricks you can do while riding in traffic.
USE HAND SIGNALS
* Left Turn: Left arm extended straight out from body.
* Right Turn: Left arm extended with forearm and hand pointing up in the shape of an "L".
* Stop: Left arm extended with forearm and hand pointing down.
NEVER HITCHHIKE
Don't hold onto a moving vehicle.
