What are my options for dealing with my citation?
You must take action within 10 days of receiving the ticket to avoid a warrant and additional fees and fines.
Fill out the form the officer gave you with your citation and mail it to P.O. Box 609 Argyle, TX 76226 or bring it to the Court Office at 506 N Hwy 377, Argyle TX (not more than 10 days from the date you received the citation)
Citizens who receive citations are given four ways of dealing with them.
Pay your fine
Enter a plea of Guilt/No Contest and pay the citation (see fine schedule)on the sheet the officer handed you (fines and fees form)
Request Deferred Disposition (probation)
Enter a plea of Guilt/No Contest and request deferred disposition. Deferred disposition means the defendant will be placed on a 90 day probation and when defendant successfully completes probation by not receiving any additional moving violations the charge will be dismissed. The defendant is required to pay the cost of the fine/court costs plus an $50 special expense fee at the time of the request. In order to be eligible to request deferred disposition (probation) you must not have had a citation in the last year.
Once your completed sheet is received with your payment, copy of driver's license and proof of insurance, your request will be processed. Paperwork (a copy for you and an original for you to read, sign and return to the court via postal mail (within 5 days of receiving the forms) will be sent to you within a few days after approval by the Judge.
Once we receive your signed paperwork back from you it will be placed in your case jacket. At the end of the 90 days we will pull your case jacket and enter the completed information and send it to the Texas Department of Public Safety indicating that you completed your 90 days deferred disposition, and if you didn’t receive any other traffic citations during that 90 day period then it should not appear on your driving record as a conviction.
Request Defensive Driving
Enter a plea of Guilt/No Contest and request defensive driving. You must have a valid Texas Drivers License (Commercial DL not eligible)and proof of insurance at the time you request to take defensive driving; speeding violation must be less than 25 miles over limit; must not have taken course with last 12 months; and have present proof of insurance in your name or coverage for your vehicle. Court cost is $ 108.00 and is due at the time of request. Defendant must locate and pay for their defensive driving class once approved and the class must be TEA (Texas Education Agency) certified class. Defendant is required to pay for and print form 3a a certified copy of their Driving Record from Texas Department of Public Safety. More information: www.texas.gov

When you return the original paperwork to us with the necessary copies and payment you may take your driving class and print your driving record. You will have 90 days to complete your class and print off a copy of your driving record. You will need to mail or bring the original driving record and the Court Copy of your Driving Class Certificate signed by you to the court prior to the 90th day. If you fail to take your course and or print your certificate within the 90 days you must then pay the balance of your citation, plus a $25.00 fee and the citation will be reported as conviction to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
We cannot give an extension on top of the 90 days, for defensive driving or the driving record, no exceptions.
Request to see the Judge
Enter a plea of Not Guilty and request a court date. This must be done in writing (complete the sheet the officer gave you and return it to the court, must be postmarked prior to the date listed at the bottom of your citation) or returned to the court office in person during normal business hours.
Once we receive your written request to see the judge we will mail you a letter with your court date and time, plus a map of how to get to where we hold court. Court is held on selected Monday evenings at 5:00 pm.
If you have a conflict with the date you may reset your court day one time only for good cause, notice must be in writing to the court at least two business days prior to your court date. Once we receive your request for reset or continuance the judge will consider the request and a new court letter with the new date will be mailed to you notifying you of your new court date.
What happens when I come to court?
Your initial court date is where you will formally enter your plea with the Judge in open court. Details of your case cannot be heard at this initial court date.
Once you enter your plea with the Judge you will take your paperwork and see the clerk at the window for your future Bench Trial or Jury Trial date whichever you chose when you saw the Judge.
When you come back for your second Court Date (trial date), that is where you may present evidence, witnesses, and give information about your case before the court. The Judge will be present, the officer will be present and the prosecutor and Court Administrator/Court Clerk will be present in the courtroom as well as the public.
The important thing to remember is to be on time to court, the Judge starts promptly and it moves quickly. Also if you don’t understand something, ask the Judge before you leave the podium.
What forms of payment does the court accept?
At the office The Argyle Municipal Court accepts cash, money orders, personal checks, cashier’s checks, MasterCard/Visa and now Discover Card. Online - go to the main webpage www.argyletx.com and click on the logo for credit cards and you can pay online with all major credit cards.
Can I have more time to pay my citation?
You may request the court for a 30 day extension, this must be in writing (fill out the form that the officer gave you with your citation)and mail it to P.O. Box 609, Argyle TX 76226 it must be postmarked not later than your “”must appear by date at the bottom of your citation.
What happens if I get approved for an extension and miss my due date?
The $25.00 fee is automatically added to your fees plus an capias pro fine warrant may be issued for your arrest anywhere a peace officer can locate you, at home, at the office, at the grocery store, etc.
We do participate in the Annual State Wide Texas Warrant Round up, you can avoid a warrant and being arrested by taking care of your citation promptly.
When is court scheduled?
The Argyle Municipal Court holds court in the evening. The Court office will notify you in writing of your court date. You may request your court date be reset one time only.
Can I change my court date?
Any continuance request must be submitted in writing to the court at least two business days prior to your hearing date.
What happens if I miss my court date?
If you fail to contact the court in writing as required and you do not show up for Court, then an FTA will immediately be issued, and a warrant for your arrest will immediately be issued with all fees and fines due. Once a warrant is issued it cannot be removed or lifted until you have paid all fines and fees in full.
My inspection sticker was out, but I got it renewed. Do I still have to pay the fine?
The inspection must be less than 60 days expired and was renewed within 20 working days after the offense or before the defendant's first court appearance, whichever is later, the violation may be dismissed for a $20 dismissal fee.
My registration was out, but I got it renewed. Do I still have to pay the fine?
The violation may be dismissed if corrected within 20 working days after the offense or before the defendant's first court appearance, whichever is later. Defendant must show proof of payment of late registration fee to the county assessor-collector. The dismissal fee is $20.00
I didn’t have the insurance card with me, but I have current insurance. Do I still have to pay the fine?
Proof of valid insurance or driver's financial responsibilty may be dismissed following verifcation of policy or financial account without any fee. Proof may be mailed, faxed or emailed, you must show proof that you had insurance on the date that you received the citation either in your name or insurance on the vehicle that you were operating.
