In Argyle, Animal Control is currently handled by a private contractor, Brian Hall, aka “The Animal Guy.” Here are the main things he offers, and our main ordinances involving our wonderful pets.

Argyle is country living at its best and with that brings unwelcome visitors from time to time. From the lumbering opossum, to the crafty raccoon, and the slippery snake, Officer Hall handles most wildlife situations. With live traps available and the tools to safely remove wild animals from homes, the Animal Guy can help solve your situation. Different seasons pose different animal issues. “Coming into winter, it's time to check those attic vents, chimney screens, and eaves for any openings animals can exploit to gain access to your attic for warmth,” states Officer Hall.

Argyle, like most municipalities, has implemented an ordinance that prohibits dogs “running at large.” Dogs must be kept confined to their property so they do not pose a nuisance to neighbors. “Many folks use the invisible fence system so that their dog(s) have the run of the yard. Other methods I have seen are standard fencing, dog runs, and tie-out systems.” Cats are exempt from this law.

State law requires all dogs and cats to be up to date on their rabies vaccinations (once every three years). Along with that is the animal should wear their rabies tag. In Argyle a free pet registration program has been implemented. All dogs and cats must be registered with the Town. Simply take your pet’s proof of current rabies shot information into Town Hall or to Chisholm Oak or Argyle Vet Clinic and you will receive a registration tag. “Your pet’s information will be entered into a laptop computer. When on patrol, if your dog is out and it’s wearing its tags, The animal control officer can look up the information to quickly return him/her to you.”

The laws are in place to protect your pets, your property and your neighbor’s pets and property.
